Screw It, Let's Do It

39 amazing people from Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece and Latvia that gathered in Kaltene, Latvia for a youth exchange “Screw It, Let’s Do It!” are the reason why this August in RED was spectacular! Main goal of the exchange was to develop entrepreneurial mindset which strives to solve problems rather than accept defeat. We tried to achieve it through developing "TOP 6 skills and traits of a successful entrepreneur" based on the opinion of top notch entrepreneurs, publishers and entrepreneurship learning institutions. During the exchange we developed, gave an received much more than mentioned skills and traits. In various workshops we used all of our senses to work as a great team and let the creative ideas flow. We fell in love with each others' passions. We made mistakes, grew and changed. Over all we got inspired from each other to stay determined and reach peaks we didn't know even existed. Because as Paula said in her REDx speech, "the flame inside of us gives enough energy to fight with any obstacles". So, let's keep it burning and screw it, let's do it! ❤️ #ErasmusPlus *This project has been funded with support from the European Commission. Idea of “Screw It, Let’s Do It” was developed during youth exchange „CreActive Skills Lab” in August, 2015 organised by NGO RED. During „CreActive Skills Lab” youngsters developed 10 most useful future work skills identified by Apollo Research Institute and during the youth exchange a question arised „ What if I don’t want to be an employee, what if I want to be self-employed and become an entrepreneur, is the same skill set the most important?”. We researched and gathered TOP 6 skills and traits of a successfull entrepreneur based on the opinion of top notch entrepreneurs, publishers and high profile entrepreneurship learning institutions and created the concept of youth exchange „Screw It, Let’s Do It!”.
Youth employment, entrepreneurship and thus also entrepreneurial skills are key aspects of Europe’s prosperity in the future. According to Eurostat data youth unemployment rate in European Union in 2014 was 21.4% and in such countries as Greece and Spain accrodingly 51.1% and 51.7% and not far are Portugal and Italy. It means that every second young person is unemployed in these countries and every fifth young person in European Union and there is an urgent need for environment, activities and facilitation in order to decrease those numbers by all means. Non-formal education and youth organisations in this aspect is the best and direct way to increase the entrepreneurial skill set of young people for becoming entrepreneurs and creating work places for themselves and other people, especially other young people. Aquiring and developing entrepreneurial skills is especially important to young people, who are still studying, looking for the job or at the beginning of their careers as it’s the time when a person has the largest potential to choose to go the entrepreneurial path or in other words follow the suggestion from Richard Branson „Screw It, Let’s Do It!”. Young people are those representing an important source of creativity and dynamism and increased entrepreneurial skill set of young people could help Europe’s economy grow and become more competitive.

The main aim of the project was to improve entrepreneurial skill set of young people in order to increase their chances on the labour market as entrepreneurs and further facilitating Europe’s economy. Looking back on activities that helped us to achieve objectives and further more aim of the project – we did reached promoted aim.
